Today is the 2nd Anniversary of my Mum's passing, so I had planned to go down to Lands end and walk along a part of the Cornish coast Mum loved. When I looked at the weatherman's forecast for the area, it was going to be raining hard by around 13:00 hrs, so I took the decision to stay local and be sure of getting some miles done in the dry.

Parking at Seaton, where a grey sand beach sits between houses built up the slopes on each side, I followed the road towards Portwrinkle for about a mile and a half, through the village of Downderry.

At a hairpin bend, the coastal path diverts off to your right and begins to wind it's way up the cliffs.

Offering views of Rame head to the East and West to Looe Island and beyond, the walking is fairly easy accept for the occasional flight of steps up and down.

Portwrinkle comes into view after around two miles, with a small harbour and grey sand beach at the western end of the village, away from the beach cafe and the main beach. The village is only small, but as 95% of traffic arrives in the village from the other end and would see the rocky beach first, I wonder if anyone but the locals know of this small beach?

On the walk back, I watch two royal Naval frigates crossing each others path out in the bay and wonder what they are doing?

As I reach the end of the coastal path and re-join the road, a gentle rain begins, but stops again within 5 minutes.

I get home and look at the weather forecast for way down west, it seems the weatherman was wrong and the rain stayed away! Still, Mum would have been just as happy walking today's trail so no harm done and another reminder that you can't rely on the weatherman down here.
